Radar's Drew Lucas produced & directed this intro piece for DIRECTV's Executive Vice President & CMO Paul Guyardo (in the video, he's the guy on the right). It played for 600 people on Tuesday morning and was filmed Monday afternoon.

Kate Capshaw, Steve Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford on the set of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I love this picture because it's one of the best "behind the scene" pics ever snapped. While every director in town has a picture of him or herself with both their hands up framing a shot, these guys are TIRED. They're chillin' for a brief moment inbetween setups and they're four of the BIGGEST names in Hollywood (at that time -- and I guess you could argue STILL). Four friends. Four icons of an industry. Not in suits. Not sitting in directors chairs, posed. Not at a premiere but in the trenches.

I LOVE Chris Brogan's take on this: 3 words that will serve "as a lighthouse for my actions and efforts." So I figured I'd take a stab at it. Here are my 3 words for 2011:

    GROWTH. HEALTH. STORYTELLING.

GROWTH - The last 3 years of my life can be defined as "transitional" growth (March 2008 - November 2010 = Divorce). Transitional growth is hard to measure because it tends to be unstable, chaotic and stressful. Transitional growth is like moving a rose bush from the backyard to the front yard. You hope it'll eventually grow back and you do your best to protect the roots but there's no guarantees and it's incredibly risky. Something that's easier to measure (day to day, week to week, month to month, etc.) is "long term" growth. One of my goals in 2011 is to LEVERAGE the successes of 2010 into bigger/better successes in 2011 and beyond (this is not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination). I don't know about you, but I'm really tired of transitional growth. I need/deserve/want some long-term growth and I believe I'll find it in 2011.

HEALTH - This usually means losing weight. Diets. Eating better. Working out. Blah blah blah. I just mean overall health: physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally. BALANCE is the keyword here. I don't want to join a gym, I just want to get off my ass a little more frequently in 2011. Sweat more. Eat better. That's about it.

STORYTELLING - 2011 will be the year I get back to what I LOVE doing: storytelling. That'll be reading, writing, more quiet time, etc. I don't want to be BUSY in 2011. I want to be PRODUCTIVE. I want to be efficient. Focused. I want to FINISH projects I start. I want to say NO to more people and YES to those I believe in and want to work with/for.

    I'm ready. Let's do this.

The list is somewhat chronological so don't pay too much attention to the numbering. But these are definitely my 10 favorite moments of 2010.

    10. DGA Meet the Nominees (1/30/10)
A horrible coughing spell sent me out to the lobby of the DGA for my 12th Meet the Nominees event with my friend Bret Goldhorn. While in the lobby by myself, watching the discussion unfold on a plasma, I had an amazing interaction with Jason Reitman as he left the theater to use the restroom. Then I talked to Ron Howard, said hello to Lesli Linka Glatter and a few other heros of mine as they stepped out of the theater and saw me sitting by myself in the lobby. Proof that sometimes being stuck in the lobby is the best way to attend any event.

    9. SXSW (3/13/10)
Thanks to Dan Portnoy, we got to be a part of last year's Beacon Lounge (aka: “the Lounge with a Conscience”) at the Convention Center where WhatGives.com produced & streamed a half-hour webcast hosted by Mark Horvath from InvisiblePeople.tv. The webcasts featured some amazing people in the social media for social good world and topics included social media’s impact on efforts to increase support for charities and causes around the world.

    8. DIRECTV (March & April 2010)
In 2010, we worked with The HAND Company in creating original media for a few DIRECTV events. We produced an opening video for the SVP of Sales and we built four green screens at an event and put 400 guests into one of four movie trailers that they could watch online.

    7. Gubernatorial Primary Debate (3/15/10)
Working again with The HAND Company, I got to direct Meg Whitman, Steve Poizner and Conan Nolan for the primary debate on March 15th. You can watch the debate here.

    6. Skip1.org Caballona Kitchen Project
In May I flew with the Skip1.org team to the DR to distribute food to several communities in need. While there, we saw a need for a kitchen and got others involved. Candace Cameron Bure and several other friends rallied together to raise the funds to build a kitchen and stock it with the necessary supplies. I'm looking forward to showing you all pics & videos of the finished kitchen in 2011.

    5. iPhone 4 (6/24/10)
This was a HUGE moment in iPhone history. The iPhone 4 was so much more than just a "typical" upgrade or improvement. The 4 rocked the mobile world and is still (6 months later) the best phone ever made.

    4. How Do I Look?
Directing more than 15 episodes of this show in 2010 has been a huge privilege and getting an Emmy nod for the prior season wasn't bad either. Too bad we lost to Martha Stewart. Let's get the win this year!

    3. Finally Divorced! (11/10/10)
After two-and-a-half years of back & forth, my divorce became final. Divorce is never a good thing but nothing's worse than a long drawn-out divorce that wastes thousands of dollars and creates stress for everyone involved. I'm just glad I can say 2010 was the year I got divorced even though it should have been 2008.

    2. Family
This year was great for trips, our family vacation to Idaho, valuable time with my daughter Hannah and just enjoying my home and pool. One of my goals in 2010 was to use my pool more during the Summer and we did exactly that.

    1. Friends
I am so blessed to have such AMAZING friends who challenge me, hold me accountable, pray for me, encourage me, etc... With all that went on in 2010 (most of it's not even mentioned here in this post), my friends were there for me in a BIG way in 2010. Thank you all for making 2010 an unforgettable year!
