It finally happened yesterday. For a year, I've been dreaming of the day that Shelene Bryan, founder of Skip1.org, and our friend Mark Horvath, founder of InvisiblePeople.tv, would connect on some level other than just saying hello. It came in the form of a SkipDay, where more than 100 people came together to help pack gLOVE Bags for our homeless friends living in the Greater Los Angeles area. These bags won't end homelessness by any means, but they will help those who would normally drive right by a homeless person to stop & think about this person, possibly get to know them and ask how they could help. The idea behind the gLOVE Bag is to get people to think differently about homelessness.
The event took place at EPIC Ventura and was kicked off by Shelene who then introduced Mark. Mark talked and showed images and videos via a PowerPoint presentation that moved the audience and helped set the tone. Then, everyone in the room started packing the bags. Within 15 minutes, more than 300 bags were packed! Record time for a SkipDay but the energy couldn't be tamed or slowed down.
I'll try and post a video of the event as soon as I can (I'll embed it here and you can always check out the website at Skip1.org/1212). If you're still wanting to give to Skip1.org or the 12/12 SkipDay, just DONATE and mark the donation as "12/12" -- we'll make sure it goes to our homeless friends. Thanks to everyone who participated, volunteered, showed up, donated and watched the webcast. See you at the next SkipDay!
